How to Pack Fragile Items Like a Pro

Alex Bruce
Broken items are the number one concern people have during a move — and they're almost entirely preventable with proper packing. General Principles - Always use quality materials: double-walled boxes, acid-free tissue, and bubble wrap - Fill every gap in every box — movement causes damage - Pack heavy items in small boxes, light items in large boxes - Never exceed 20kg per box Glassware & Crockery - Wrap each item individually in tissue or bubble wrap - Place glasses upright, never stacked - Use cell dividers (the cardboard grids) for wine glasses - Mark boxes "FRAGILE — THIS WAY UP" Electronics - Use original packaging if you still have it - Remove batteries, ink cartridges, and loose parts - Wrap screens in bubble wrap and place face-down in snug boxes - Back up all data before packing computers Artwork & Mirrors - Create an X with masking tape across the glass - Wrap in bubble wrap, then place between two pieces of cardboard - Store upright (never flat) in the van All Vaniffy-vetted operators carry professional packing materials and can provide full or part-packing services.
